Benefits and Costs of NAFTA Essay -- NAFTA International Economics Ess

Benefits and Costs of NAFTA Works Cited Not Included As long as NAFTA has been in existence, there has been controversy over its benefits and costs. Since NAFTA is viewed as a neoliberal trade and investment agreement, supporters and critics alike are able to expand its validity to a grander scale when dealing with the question of whether free trade itself is beneficial or harmful. During the life of NAFTA, many valid arguments for and against free trade have been brought to the forefront. Many economists argue neoliberal trade is superior due to allocational efficiency benefits. ?By lowering trade barriers, the agreement has expanded trade in all three countries. This has led to increased employment, more choices for consumers at competitive prices, and rising prosperity? (NAFTA at Eight 2). This rising prosperity mentioned is a result of rising efficiency that pro-neoliberal economists believe develops through specialization. If a country is better than another at producing a certain good, then that country is said to have an absolute advantage over the other in that particular industry. When both countries have higher productivity rates in different industries and they concentrate their efforts in those respective industries, then both countries benefit through neoliberal trade as they are not wasting their time and efforts producing goods that the other country can produce faster. As a result of trade through countries with different absolute advantages, total world production and therefore productive efficiency will increase. Even when a country is more efficient in all industries, both countries can still benefit from trade by comparative advantages. ?Some lawyers are better typists than their secretari... ...stitutions are more responsive to the poor, to the environment, to the broader political and social concerns that I have emphasized is to increase openness and transparency? (Stiglitz 227). These international economic institutions should possess substantial transparency considering their policies directly affect the public. Instead, the IMF and similar institutions have no accountability to the public of which it is supposed to serve. Through lack of transparency, countries with major influence in the IMF such as the U.S. can indirectly impose its own investment agenda upon the country in crisis. If actions of the IMF were directed through a democratic process, more logical and productive policies would develop. If the IMF promotes transparency through the policies it imposes on developing countries, it should set an example through its own governance.

Life in Prison

Prison life in most society is not considered a life worth mentioning. When a person decides to break the law and take up a life of crime, he or she should be aware of certain circumstances that lie ahead. When individuals break the law in our society, the pathway to a life in jail or prison is almost certain. Life simple freedom that most of society enjoys are limited in prison, and in some case none existence. Told where to go, how to act, when to speak, when to rise for the day or when to sleep can be torture. While enduring this he or she is confined in a small cell surrounded by the worst criminals society has to offer can make what life one has left a living nightmare (Heydoorn, 2008). In this paper, I will discuss my personal perspective that I have on Life in Prison. I will also discuss the policies that I would enforce, inmates need for respect, change in correctional policies that I would implement, and my beliefs on why people become criminals. After reading various topics on prison life during this course of study, along with my personal experience as a law enforcement officer, my perspective and understanding of prison life has not change. The main purpose of jail and prison has not change since the early days of our society. Prisons in our society are to house those citizens, which have committed crimes, like murder, rape, arson, and burglary. These citizens are held until their day in court, their trail has been set, and punishment has been rendered. Our ancestors intended purpose of jails and prisons were used as a form of punishment against the offender, a deterrent against the offender from committing crimes, removing dangerous criminals from our society and rehabilitation of less violent criminals. The system I think is ineffective so my understanding is that the system works. However, I am not supportive of the harsh conditions that some inmates will experience while incarcerated. The subculture of gang life and having to choose between living prison life safe or a victim of prison life is a difficult choice (Latessa, 2004). Some policies that I would make to aid the adjustment of prisoners to prison life are first address the subculture mentality that all inmates will experience. This unwritten inmate code, which is nothing more than a certain rules, and belief that used to bind inmates together. Prison life within this culture sees prison as nothing more than a training ground for gladiators. Here is where the strong will survive and flourish in this culture or weak shall become victims. This one area seldom addressed in the majority of prisons. In some cases, prisons officials allow this system to operate for fear of staff safety and gang retaliation. If this were the first order of attack, an inmate might have the chance at rehabilitation and reeducating themselves for reentry back to society (De Viggiani, 2006). In prison life for an inmate, his or her very existence is based on respect, hope, and safety that he or she will survive their sentence. If respect is given to an inmate as, a human being than respect should be rendered in return. Respect can be the difference between a prison riots or safe staff. Giving an inmate hope can change an individual whole outlook on prison life. Though hope an inmate can, one acquires his or her GED, learn a trade, kick drug addiction, and one-day walk out a free man. Other changes in policy that I would suggest in both state and federal prison would first start with the correctional management staff ideology. In almost every state in the United States prison system operates with the idea that if a plan worked good one day why change it the next. In other words if the system is not broken why fix it. The correctional system is like any other field in our society reluctant to change even when it is long overdue. The hearts and minds of correctional professionals, is a start in the right direction. In the last 100 years, there has been very little difference in how our prisons are operated this needs to change. Just because it was successful in 1950 does not mean it is for 2011. During this course of study, I do not think that there is no definite reason people become criminals. It is hard for me to think that individuals are merely born criminals and its is beyond that person control to do otherwise. I think that some people just take up criminal activity because the lifestyle and danger of being caught appeals to their behavior. Others might do strictly for financial gains that might override any rational thought. Some because of their environment see it as easy ticket out of poverty in which he or she grew up. The list could go on with no simple answer. However, I am confident that if the majority of our society were taught at an early age that criminal behavior is a no win scenario that will only led them to a life in prison. Multinational Corporations Based On International Business...

Although the multinational is separated in several nations, it remains as a single enterprise and therefore must consider how to balance competitive pressures for differentiation and integration (Lawrence and Lorsch, 1967). Multinationals must decide how to be sensitive to the unique demands of the indigenous environment without inhibiting their ability to coordinate the internal operations of local units in search of global strategies. As these issues of differentiation and integration are often facilitated by HRM activities, they represent a critical component in the IHRM. An example of this dual focus is found in most multinational corporations based on international business, which tend to assign primary responsibility to their subsidiaries for local compensation and benefits, training and labour relations, with regional units assuming secondary responsibility (Reynolds 1992). Productive globalization occurred with the growth and expansion of multinationals. The Importance of the Structure of Dna - 1582 Words

Ka Zhu The Importance of the Structure of DNA Understanding ideas at a macroscopic scale is simple. Looking at a clock, observing and understanding the movements of the hands over the numbered surface are, in essence, all one requires to use the device. In order for innovation to occur, it is imperative to understand the inner workings of the device on a microscopic scale to modulate its properties. Such is the case for many innovations in science, from the heat engine to penicillin, and is no different for biological advancements. Like the seed of a plant, the understanding of the structure of DNA constitutes the basis of all life, establishing a foundation upon which explanations of increasing complexity can be developed. With physics, humans are able to venture to a macroscopic dimension of enormous celestial bodies enveloped in vast, seemingly endless space to interpret the behaviour of their surroundings in addition to what was currently known. The discovery of the structure of DNA enabled humans to venture into a new dimension to further extend their understanding of the world to microscopic elements. Not only does the new dimension allow for the development of scientific explanations for the behaviour of organisms, but it also grants humans the knowledge and power to manipulate their surroundings at a new microscopic dimension, thus allowing them to advance civilization in a completely new frontier. The largest threat to African Americans with after the Civil War and Reconstruction was the Ku Klux Klan. The KKK was founded in 1866, and extended into almost every southern state by 1870. The organization became a vehicle for white southern citizens to deny Republican Party’s Reconstruction-era policies whose ideas, that tried establishing political and economic equality for African Americans. The KKK flourished in some regions in the South where, African Americans were a minority of the population. The KKK also targeted any individual or organization that would support minatory groups. However, there still were many oppression supporters by the end of 1876, even though, the entire south was under Democratic control once again. Despite all the positive changes in the South, oppression still existed and the KKK still managed to harm many African Americans. Kingdom of Heaven Movie Reflection Essay Example For Students

Kingdom of Heaven Movie Reflection Essay I observed the movie entitled â€Å"Kingdom of Heaven. † The story focused mostly on Balian, a man who had simple lifestyle in Southern France. When he was left by his child and wife who committed a suicide, he became filled with grief and sought redemption. It was an epic adventure story about the crusades of Christians during 12th century. Balian was a stranger to Jerusalem but he became one of the knights there. The king offered him to marry his sister (Sybila) in order for Balian to take his place after his death, because he wanted to have a good leader to manage the place of the Holy Land, but Balian rejected the offer because of his conscience and respect to the expected husband (Guy) of Sybila. As I watched the film, it made me realized how Christians in the late century fought for their religion. It seemed so sad to know that fighting for their religion most likely meant taking others lives. They kept on killing people just to invade one’s place. We will write a custom essay on Kingdom of Heaven Movie Reflection specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now I have thought about what if Christians and Muslims during that century had just fixed that issue in a nice way; there’s no homicide happened, maybe now all of us are at peace. At that time, why did they have to kill people if their main purpose was to expand Christianity? Through their actions, they just destroyed the image of Christians. As what I have observed, Muslims were obsolete, but Christian armies did the first move to have a war against them. The bloody-war where most of the Christian armies died was when Guy took the place of being the King of Jerusalem. Most of his decisions were not for the good but instead to start always a war against Muslims. That was one of the reasons the late king wanted Balian to be the king because he knew the capacity of Balian if he were in the position. The king knew that if Balian was the leader, he would not let Jerusalem struggle. He would protect the Holy Land and the people who were living there. Guy as the king was just profiteering and made the religion and position as a front self-advancement. He and his members were just using their religion for their personal needs and power against the people under them. In fact, he betrayed the people living in Jerusalem and the people who were under Saladin. He was a kind of a leader who did not know how to manage his people. He had a small mind to decide things that were not necessary. I really hated Guy because he was the one who started the war. He didnt deserve the position they had given to him. He was an immoral person who didnt care for the sake of his people. He deserved what happened to him in the hand of Saladin a lot due to his unlawful actions. If Balian only accepted the position offered to him, I think all that misunderstandings between the Christians and Muslims would not happened. But we cannot blame Balian because he placed himself where he supposed to be. Yet, he did not forsake the land of Jerusalem; instead he stood for it in order to save the people. I was amazed for the brave personality of Balian he was more intelligent than Guy, because when the Muslims stroke their territory, even they did not have enough knights, and still he managed to protect their place. Because of his righteousness, many people adored him, and he became the hero of their land even though at first he was only a stranger. He put on all his efforts and sacrificed a lot, but when they no longer had defense against their opponents, Balian surrendered the land of Jerusalem to Saladin, rather than to let people suffer more. He thought that when the war would continue, lots of people (both old and children) would die. He was not selfish, because he always thought about the welfare of the majority. Being a leader, we should follow the footsteps of Balian, and use him as inspiration as we go along to our journey in life. .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871 , .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871 .postImageUrl , .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871 , .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871:hover , .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871:visited , .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871:active { border:0!important; } .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871:active , .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871 .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uf84ff405a73446a0f8f0ea88883a4871:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Speilberg Build Tension In The Film Jaws EssayWe should not go for a decision that might cause bad results for other. We need to consider always others’ welfare before we go for it. As Christianity is concerned, what we need is to live out the doings of Christ when he existed in this world. He did not build Christianity for persecution purposes. We must learn from him what he did for us. What I have witnessed in the movie was that it was really a brutal doings and disgusting. If I were there, I would have rather committed suicide than to continue follow the higher ranks that were not worthy to follow like Guy. In general, I learned so much about why Muslims and Christian people currently are incompatible with each other. I realized also that even if you are Christians, you should never underestimate the other religions since our ancestors were sinners. In ancient times, they kept committing homicide towards their co-knights. They were brutal and had no conscience when they were taking one’s life. They did not practice the commandments of God. I also noticed that when the ruler was not wise enough to govern his men, his administration would become wasted. As an application to what I have learned, I must choose the worthy leaders that will govern our society; we must fight for our right being a citizen of this institution to have a good leader to serve us. A leader must not betray us and be brave enough to protect our country from other countries who want to take our territory. And as the religion is concerned, we must not force others to join the Christian society, but let their faith bring them where they should be. As long as we have one God, one faith and one hope there’s nothing to worry about.

Particle Physics Research Proposal Research Paper Example

Particle Physics Research Proposal Paper Particle physics is a branch of physics which studies the structure, qualities and interrelation of particles. The major tool in the research of the theory of particles is quantum field theory. Briefly, every particle is not a piece of the entire matter, but a certain particular excitation of a Hilbert space. The world is observed in the sphere of particle physics as a vector in the Hilbert space of conditions, which turns in it with time. The main result of the modern theory of particle physics is the Standard Model. This theory has been checked on practice many time in the past and recently and it can be called a single theory of physics which describes the structure of the modern world from the smallest particles to the biggest objects which can be imagined. The interrelation of particles in particle physics differs from the interrelation of objects in other fields of physics. For example, in mechanics experts research the motion of the objects which can interact with one another, but this branch of physics does not study the reasons and factors which influence these interactions. Particle physics from its side pays much attention to the interaction between particles and objects and tries to explain the factors which cause this relation. Particle physics is the branch of physics which studies the basics of the interconnection between the smallest particles in the space and this knowledge is extremely important for the understanding of the structure of the universe. Particle physics can be very interesting topic for the research, because the student is able to focus on the peculiarities of this branch of physics and demonstrate his knowledge about the issue and the major elements of particle physics. The student is able to develop the topic further and suggest a new approach towards the research of particle physics and present his ideas in the quality proposal. The young professional can complete a good research proposal which would reflect the student’s creativity and ability to apply the theory of particle physics on practice developing new and new fields of research. One should focus on the creation of the methodology of the research and illustrate the sources which can be useful for the observation of particle physics.
